We set up last Friday night at the Trico Gate near the Humane Border water Station (flying flag) on the City of Tucson water property (see video clip below). The City of Tucson allows Reverend Hoover from the South Side Presbyterian Church to place "water stations" on the their property (one of 80 stations along the way) to beckon the Illegal Aliens, but posts "no trespassing" signs on the same property for us Gringos.
This location is a popular destination on the "Amnesty Trail", southwest of Tucson Arizona, 10 miles north of Three Points Arizona, and sixty miles north of the Arizona/Mexico Border. The Illegal Aliens come into this area on the final leg of a 60 mile journey to be picked up on Manville road just two miles to the north.... they've been going to this same location for over 30 years. The Border Patrol knows of this location and it seem like if they wanted to catch Illegal Aliens, this is where they would go.
The first group came into the water station around 9:10pm on March 28, 2008. The Border Patrol was called and came into the area at Manville and Trico Road, but never came down to the water station (two miles to the south on Trico Road) where we were posted and the Illegal Aliens were coming through. Seems like if you wanted to track a group, you would go to the place where you could find the tracks.
For the next four hours, 3 groups came through at exactly the same place. A group of 11 at 9:10 pm, a group of 6 at 10:34pm, and a group of 31 at 11:04 pm. These sightings were reported to the Border Patrol, and although agents were in the area, and were informed of our camera location, they never came down to find the "sign". The Border Patrol supposedly called for "air support" but it never came. Sometime around midnight, the Border Patrol informed us that they were pulling out of the area because their shift was over. Border Patrol agents were overheard telling the dispatcher "no contact" with Illegal Aliens in the Trico Gate area. That is understandable as they never went to the Trico Gate.... I know, because I was there all night.
So when you hear new reports from the Department of Homeland Security saying that "apprehensions are down", its because "they ain't looking" !
