Spencer Educates McCain About Border Fence
McCain Town Hall Meeting, Sierra Vista -- March 31 -- From audio recording
Glenn Spencer: It's great to see you here and welcome to Sierra Vista. I'm glad you're here. the My name is Glenn Spencer. I live right on the border – I have a ranch right on the border, just south of here.
Sen. John McCain: We've met before.
Spencer: Yes. I run a little group called . It's a non-profit. And what I do, John -- we have three airplanes, and one of them I fly from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean, regularly, and I map the border. I have watched the border fence go up. And we are in a unique situation where we have a database that shows when the fence went in. John, what I have learned is that there is a cause-effect relationship between when that fence went in and when the drug war started in Mexico. There's going to be in Tucson and they're going to talk about my theory. I have some data right here -- may I approach the bench?
McCain: Of course you might.
Spencer: And we have some charts that show there is a strong corr elation between when the fence went in and the drug killings in Mexico. And the theory is this -- and I believe it is true -- If -- and we've only built a small part of the fence -- and if we finish it -- we've only built thirty-five miles of the 700 mile double fence -- if we finish it -- wouldn't that cut off all of the drugs that these guys are fighting over? -- Wouldn't that cut off all of the avenues coming in? (applause) And that would end the drug war in Mexico. I believe it would. -- (Exchange continues for about five minutes)
