Thank you for your response and interest. I have received many comments and will not have the time to respond to all. However, because yours was particularly well written, it stood out from the others.
I have just sent out another email to my email list discussing the outcome of the comments I received and attached the final resolution passed by our board. I have asked those that forwarded my original email to their own lists to also forward this last one I sent. Hopefully, this will be forwarded to you as well.
One thing you mentioned concerns me. You mentioned the American Border Patrol and the fact that some are identifying it as a militia or vigilante group. That was news to me. Their name has never come up in conversations I've had regarding the passage of our resolution. In fact, I agree with you - they are exactly what they say they are. I'm perplexed as to how they've come to be included in the discussion. Perhaps the person that forwarded you my original email has been embellishing and has a secondary agenda of which I'm unaware?
By way of explanation, the resolution was a response to a local newspaper's editorial call to arms regarding our local border issues. This paper, the Tombstone Tumbleweed, also has the county's contract this year to carry our legal adds. As such it can legally run the caption of the 'official' county newspaper. Unfortunately, the editorial, and it's banner headline calling people to arms, ran directly under the 'official' county newspaper caption. Some of the large circulation papers in the state picked the story up, linking our Board to the irresponsible editorial. We were left with little choice other than to clarify our position.
I'm attaching the final resolution for your information. Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. I very much appreciated your comments.
Pat Call.
