Customs and Border Protection Cessna Citation intercepts ABP's Border Hawk M over Roger Barnett's ranch this morning about 11 am. Top photo shows jet as it approached Border Hawk. It then swung in behind following at a very close distance, maybe 500 feet. Bottom photo shows jet as it passed Border Hawk M on its starboard side. A CNN crew was aboard filming an interview with Glenn Spencer about the Roger Barnett verdict when this incident happened. Pilot Spencer had notified Customs and Border Protection of the flight in advance. And, as is the standard procedure, the Border Hawk M was squawking a special transponder code that identified it as American Border Patrol. "I have no idea why this jet approached us and why they put us in danger by flying so close behind us," Spencer said. CNN videotaped the entire encounter. |

| American Border Patrol Video Report Protection Close encounter over Cochise County Note that the Cessna Citation jet tucked in behind the Border Hawk M and stayed there for some time (3 or 4 minutes). When the jet was behind us he got even closer. There was no reason for this. The entire episode from first encounter shown on the tape to where the jet left was recorded from the Border Hawk's intercom onto the video tape taken by CNN. |
