SHERIFF BLOCK REFUSES
TO ENFORCE PROP. 187 LAWS
- Los Angeles has a serious problem with the manufacture, distribution,
sale and use of phony identification documents. That is why the
proponents of Proposition 187 included Sections 2 and 3 to deal
with phony documents. These sections became California law in
November 1994 - Penal Code Sections 113 and 114.
- VCT learned that our law enforcement agencies are not
citing illegal aliens for violating these laws.
- On August 20, 1995 ,we ran a full-page ad in the Los Angeles
Daily News which accused Sheriff Sherman Block of failing to
enforce these new Proposition 187 laws.
Responding
to our ad Sheriff Block wrote in a letter to the Daily News on
August 28, 1995:
- "We are enforcing those provisions of Proposition 187
that the courts have not enjoined."
- WAS SHERIFF BLOCK TELLING THE TRUTH?
On the same day as his letter in the Daily
News (August 28) Voice of Citizens Together sent the following
fax to Sheriff's Headquarters:
- How many arrests have been made by the L.A. County
Sheriff's Dept. under Penal Code Sections 113 and 114 since they
were added (subsequent to November 8, 1994?).
On
September 5, VCT received the following fax from the Sheriff's
Department:
- As per your request dated August 28, 1995, we have
gone through our records and found only one incident of Penal
Code 113 (a) as on date.
- George Mathew L.A. County Sheriff's Department Management
Information Services 213-780-2117
According to
his own records, the Sheriff has never arrested and charged anyone
under Penal Code Section 114 for the use of phony IDs since the
law went into effect in November, 1994, and only one arrest and
charge has been made for the manufacture, sale and distribution
of phony ID documents (Penal Code Section 113).
- One of two things must be true. Illegal aliens have stopped
using phony IDs or SHERIFF BLOCK is NOT TELLING THE TRUTH.
Isn't
it also interesting that Sheriff Block campaigned heavily against
Proposition 187, including making many personal appearances.
On one such occasion, Block shared a podium with Linda Wong to
fight against Proposition 187. Linda Wong was the former legal
counsel for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education
Fund (MALDEF) and is an open-borders advocate.
- AND, SHERIFF BLOCK HAS NOW ORGANIZED THE FRATERNAL ORDER
OF POLICE IN OPPOSITION TO THE GALLEGLY AMENDMENT TO HR 2202,
EVEN THOUGH THE CALIFORNIA AND ARIZONA CHAPTERS SUPPORT IT.
