Raul Grijalva is an embarrassment
Arizona Daily Star -- 1/13/03
Raul Grijalva shows himself to be, at first opportunity, a man with little or no intellect and no shame, who chooses not to represent Arizona and the United States, but the illegal immigrants who are a plague, a threat and a burden to our state as well as our country.
The fear on the border comes not from good citizens who are trying to do what our government has failed to do - secure our borders - but from the invasion into, and on, the land, homes and rights of those who live in proximity to Mexico.
A fact obviously lost on Grijalva is that he was elected to represent us, translate that to United States and Arizona, not illegal immigrants.
Should he ask for anything, it should be that the feds do their job so private citizens would not have to act in their absence.
He is, and will continue to be, an embarrassment to our state and to your paper for the endorsement he so ill-deserved.

Grijalva an embarrassment to state
It was rather sad to see the picture of Raúl Grijalva being sworn in as a congressman. This is a man with no shame who chooses not to represent southern Arizona and the United States, but the illegal immigrants who are a plague, a threat and a burden to our state and country.
The fear on the border comes not from good citizens who are trying to do what our government has failed to do - secure our borders - but from the invasion into, and upon the land, homes and rights of those who live close to Mexico.
A fact obviously lost on Grijalva is that he was elected to represent us, translate that to U.S., not illegal immigrants. Should he ask for anything, it should be that the feds do their job so that private citizens would not have to act in their absence. He is, and will continue to be, an embarrassment to our state.

Oro ValleyGrijalva: Right words, wrong target
I've heard enough to convince me that I must have been wrong about Raúl Grijalva. "An atmosphere of fear exists in southern Arizona that threatens to ignite in a flashpoint of violence," he said, accurately identifying the feelings of many of our border citizens who are on the front lines of the southern invasion.
"The words and actions of these groups are ample evidence of an armed racist movement intent on taking the law into their own hands," he continued, recognizing that groups of drug smugglers, coyotes, and "undocumented" immigrants - including possible terrorists - have thumbed their noses at our laws.
"We cannot allow the complex issues involved in U.S.-Mexico border policy to be hijacked by individuals who have chosen to break faith with our government and take matters into their own hands," he continued, in apparent reference to those criminals who decide that U.S. immigration law and border control are misguided mistakes.
How disappointed I was to discover, upon closer reading, that the newly sworn congressman was talking about Arizonans, U.S. citizens, who are striving to protect their private property in response to lax federal protection of our sovereign borders. And here I was, thinking that maybe a leopard could change his spots.

Grijalva should be prosecuted
Actually, the racist U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva, D-Ariz., should be investigated for encouraging illegals to break U.S. law and he should be prosecuted for creating the atmosphere and opportunity for terrorists to breach our border and kill U.S. citizens.
I look forward to seeing the racist Rep. Grijalva prosecuted under the Patriot Act and sent to prison.

Hey, Raúl: 'Go south, young man'1/14/03 - Tucson Citizen
U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva, D-Ariz., is begging to be removed from his seat as a congressman. Instead of applauding the very good work of citizens who are volunteering to help seal our southern border, Grijalva has sided with the illegal aliens. This man is simply nuts!
At a time when we are threatened by terrorists, he wants us to ignore illegal immigration? As the president has said, in this time when America is being threatened, you are either with us, or you are with the terrorists.
Grijalva has chosen to represent his amigos south of the border. I recommend he move south and change his party affiliation to PRI.

Take action to stop vigilantes Founded in 1915, Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) empowers women to work for peace and justice in 45 countries around the world.
It is with great concern we are asking for immediate investigation of the vigilantes invading our local communities in recent months. The racist sentiments they promote, the violence and use of arms they encourage, and the impunity with which they act is a dangerous threat to our border region.
We always urge our leaders to press for imaginative and non-violent solutions to conflict. We therefore are proud to stand in solidarity with U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva's recent call for the investigation and prosecution of those who are taking the law into their own hands and stirring divisive hatred in our border communities. We feel action must be taken right away to avoid further abuse of human rights and bloodshed.

Grijalva ignores the real problem
Our southwestern border is being invaded by drug smugglers and criminals who think nothing of violating our laws.
"Coyotes" are the cause of many deaths in the desert. Tucson is infiltrated with drug gangs and criminals who think nothing of killing one another and innocents.
Our hospitals, law enforcement agencies, and taxpayers are overburdened by this border invasion. Then a handful of patriots - yes, they are vigilant not vigilantes - decide to protect their lives, property, country, and call attention to the criminal invasion of our border.
U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva ignores the real problem and demands the patriots be investigated and probably thrown into jail. I have some questions for Grijalva:
Who do you represent, illegal foreigners or U.S. citizens?
When are you going to devote your time to solving the border problem?
What about a guest worker program that would protect the rights of foreign workers wanting to make an honest living rather than being at the mercy of coyotes?
How responsible are you when you ignore these questions?
A good representative should devote his time solving real problems not creating imaginary ones. Grijalva's charge of racism is a smoke screen for the facts that he ignores. "The atmosphere of fear" to quote Grijalva, is caused by the criminal invasion of our borders by thousands of illegal immigrants, not by the handful of concerned patriots who call attention to the problems our leaders would rather ignore.
