We Need To Know Who's Coming
By Mark Andrew Dwyer -- Posted May 15, 2005

Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez was interviewed 5/5/05 on Shawn Hannity show.

When Mr. Gonzalez spoke about the Patriot Act, he was clear, outspoken, and smooth-talking. But when Hannity asked him about illegal immigration, Mr. Gonzalez suddenly lost half of his eloquence. He began repeating word "difficult" over and over again as if border enforcement by a superpower (the U.S.) from intrusions by violators from a banana republic (Mexico) was something that could not be done. When Hannity indicated that a few hundred civilian volunteers (The Minutemen) were able to dramatically reduce the illegal traffic through the 23 mile stretch of the border that they watched, Gonzalez became evasive and tried to shift the focus of conversation to other issues. He suggested that the problem of illegal "immigration" really lied within Mexico and not the U.S. so that there is not much American authorities can do until Mexican government implements sweeping changes to their economy and polity. (Yeah, right. Be my guest. Or read my earlier column [1] that debunked that myth.) Then, partially contradicting his previous statement, he speculated that the border can be effectively enforced but only after the U.S. immigration system is overhauled. (Can you believe he really said that? Perhaps what he meant was that once every Mexican "migrant" and his brother is allowed to enter the U.S. as they please there will be no problems whatsoever with "enforcement"?) Then he went on bragging how much the Bush administration is doing and how much money and technology they commit to border enforcement. (As if he thought we forgot his boss's budget proposal that provided funds for hiring of extra ... 210 Border Patrol agents out of 2,000 authorized and recommended by the Congress last year.)

Finally, he said that that the U.S. welcomes [foreign-born] people with open hands but "we need to know who is coming".

Excuse me? We just need know who is coming and that's all?

How about actually deciding who is allowed to come to the U.S. and who is not, and how many are we willing to let into our country? How about sorting the talented ones from those with no skills but large families that are likely to become a burden for the Americans who pay their fair share of taxes? How about screening them for criminal history, diseases, socialist revolutionary sympathies, and contempt of America and the values she stands for? How about separating settlers and invaders from actual immigrants that want to become responsible American citizens and not to "extend [Mexico] beyond the territory enclosed by its borders" (quotation from [2])?

Apparently, Mr. Gonzalez would be happy leaving the decision of what kind of immigrants do we get in the U.S. to the immigrants themselves, as long as "we know who's coming". No wonder why are we getting such a miserable oversupply of gangsters, drug traffickers, militant Mexican nationalists, high school dropouts, volume baby makers, and other misfits and rebellious lawbreakers with the current wave of "migration". And that's scary. It's like if the U.S. law chief enforcer acknowledged the God-given right of the people of the world to "migrate" into the U.S. under the sole condition that they have a reliable form of ID, and We the People had no say whether we want them or not.

President Bush repeatedly characterized illegal "migrants" as "goodhearted people who are coming here to work" (quotation from [3]). So, maybe, after all, we are mostly getting prospective American citizens that will prove valuable assets to our society and economy? But wait ... If Bush knew who was coming then he would tell that his Attorney General. And Mr. Gonzalez doesn't know, for otherwise he would not propose that "we need to know who is coming". So Bush doesn't know who's coming, either. But he said that those who are coming are "goodhearted people" who just want to "do the jobs that Americans won't". Hence he made a claim he had no sound basis to make. In other words, he was insincere while talking to the American people. So it's quite possible that he was also insincere on other issues when he was repeating all the debunked open-border lobby's myths and mantras like that the mass "migration" from Mexico and other Third World countries is good for America and American economy (see [4] for many more examples). I am sure he was.

Do you still consider him trustworthy and the statements he makes credible?

I don't.

And I totally disagree with his administration insinuations that all we need is to know who is coming.

Do you?
