More support for Border Patrol
Slain Park Ranger Kris Eggle 12/8/02
Four members of Arizona's congressional delegation plus staff members made the choice to tour the border on Thursday.
It is a very positive sign that this serious issue is being given this kind of attention. This is also a good sign for my family and friends from Cadillac, Mich.
On Aug. 9, my son, U.S. Park Ranger Kristopher William Eggle, was murdered at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. He was killed by an assassin for a Mexican drug cartel.
On that tragic afternoon, Kris was called to assist Border Patrol agents. Because of the lack of all the pertinent information, poor radio transmissions, old equipment and no vehicle barrier, these young men were called into a death trap.
I hope our government will now do what is right for the safety and protection of its legal citizens.
We deserve to have our borders secure and our law enforcement officers better protected. These young men and women are still very short-staffed and risk their lives every day with "one hand tied behind their backs."
They take the same oath of office as Congress, the president and other leaders. Our law enforcement officers need the support of those who can make a difference.
Bonnie Eggle
Cadillac, Mich.
