''When people talk about the Latino population, they're counting people like my grandchild,'' says Linda Chavez, president of the Center for Equal Opportunity. The ensuing uproar led to the resignation of then-director Linda Chavez and board member Walter Cronkite.

Dear Member of Congress: We are writing to express our concern that both Congress and the Administration are moving toward the implementation of a national worker registry. We believe such a plan put forward in the name of immigration control, is both misguided and dangerous for the following reasons.......... (Chavez is one of the signers)
Supporters of unrestricted immigration like Jack Kemp, Ted Kennedy and Linda Chavez invariably argue that new immigrants "assimilate," that they shake off the dusty garments of the cultures they come from and quickly garb themselves in bright new American costume. Indeed, to hear these xenophiles gabble on about the contributions of immigrants, they seem to prefer aliens to their own countrymen.
