Administration
plans immigration-overhaul proposal for Congress
...Eight to 12 million undocumented workers
are in the United States, and hundreds of thousands more sneak
across the border yearly. Most are finding jobs at construction
sites, poultry plants, hog farms, hotels, restaurants, hospitals
- anywhere there's a low-wage job. -- As local authorities and
employers turn a blind eye to the legal status of workers, the
United States is becoming a nation of lawbreakers. |

in human cargo and using them as sex slaves. --- Immigration
authorities were able to break up the ring because they were
on the inside. Federal agents went undercover, posing as smugglers,
and drove the illegal immigrants from the valley to Houston.

Illegals
cost California $ billions
...After running through his calculations,
Hiltzik presents the bottom line: "The total the state spends
on illegal immigrants is no more than $4.6 billion a year, with
CalWorks being a judgment call. This is a substantial amount,
but clearly not enough to account for all of the state's budget
gap, which is running $8 billion to $12 billion annually."

on SPLC didn't go far enough
Thanks for a rare spotlight on the rapacious
Southern
Poverty Law Center, which has long masqueraded as a defender
of civil rights. -- But the group is even worse than described.
Not only are they "parasitic hucksters" as your "Lump
of Coal" editorial accurately describes, they destroy the
reputations of decent people in order to make money. |

Bitten
to death by ducks
The cartoon is wonderful, but not funny.
-- Uncle Sam sits on a rock, sleeping. His chin rests on one
hand, the other arm outstretched, palm up. -- He is surrounded
by a multitude of illegal aliens, piling up on and around his
feet. They're climbing up the rock and surging over his lap,
back, head and fill his outstretched hand. -- He appears to be
swarming with ants. It gives me chills.... |

as the most vocal proponent of sweeping immigration reform in

of Representatives trying to give law enforcement authorities
greater authority to prosecute illegals. When California Governor
Democrat Gray Davis signed a bill granting driver's licenses
to illegal aliens... |
