I remember a photo of large Coca-Cola
ad in rural Mexico that was widely circulated by Liberal press
a few decades ago as an ultimate proof of American imperialism's
"shameful" attempts to drive the "pure" Mexican
culture to its extinction. Twenty years later, I realized that
those journalists who had expressed their outrage with "Americanization"
of Mexico and other Latin American countries weren't such cultural
purists after all, at least not as far as the American culture
was concerned. |
