Mexican ID Cards Drawing Criticism

Illegal Alien Get Out Of Jail Free Card
Los Angeles Times - November 26
...The American Patrol and the California Coalition for Immigration Reform take a hard line against illegal immigration. "Our concerns are that the police in Orange County seem to be taking it upon themselves to assume the responsibility for foreign affairs," said Glenn Spencer, president of the Sherman Oaks-based American Patrol. -- "The only persons, it would seem to us, who need to get the special consular documents are persons who are in the country illegally."

Mexican president announces housing plan
Saying Mexico needs to build 750,000 houses a year, President Vicente Fox on Monday announced a National Housing Plan that mingles heavy doses of private financing with public money. -- "The construction of housing is one of the most important commitments and challenges of my government," Fox told a conference at the presidential residence, Los Pinos. -- "In spite of the economic slowdown, we are going to be seriously building houses and apartments to reactivate our economy and generate opportunities that Mexicans demand," Fox said.

Re: Mexican ID Cards Drawing Criticism
I plan to attend at least the Tuesday Anaheim City Council Meeting. This is a vital issue to win, especially when considering that Anaheim and Santa Ana are top illegal alien gathering points and neighborhoods. If this skirmish is lost, it could well spell the end to any hope that noncitizens who are here illegally can ever be deported for breaking the law to be here.

Loopholes leave U.S. borders vulnerable
They used aliases and posed as tourists. They faked out diplomats abroad and zipped through inspections at U.S. airports. Once within our borders, they melted into the melting pot. -- Then they killed. -- Like millions of foreigners who come to the United States each year, the 19 hijackers who carried out the Sept. 11 attacks on America entered through the front door, on legal visitors' visas. -- They exploited a litany of loopholes in the system...

No accountability at INS
Syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin again takes the INS to task for not disciplining those involved in the Kromegate scandal, where the Miami district director and his subordinates conspired to lie to Congress. "Mr. Cadman [then Miami DD] and his co-workers in management released criminal aliens into the general population to alleviate overcrowding, instructed underlings to lie about workplace operations, and hired immigration inspectors on overtime to reduce airport lines."

The Mexican Consulate in Douglas will initiate a migrant protection campaign starting Nov. 27. -- "The aim is to warn migrants about the dangers of crossing the border during the winter," said Mexican Consul Miguel Escobar. -- The consulate staff will hang posters in strategic areas and distribute pamphlets to migrants, alerting the migrants of the dangers. Kidnapped men found murdered in Juarez; police implicated
Officers from at least three Mexican police agencies have been implicated in the torture-murder of four men who were kidnapped after a fight in a Ciudad Juarez bar, newspapers reported on Sunday. -- Two city police officers allegedly helped stop the men who were kidnapped. A witnesses said the attackers identified themselves as federal police officers. And he said he thinks he recognized state agents among them. -- Chihuahua state police said the bodies of four men were discovered Saturday on a vacant lot...

Replace the bald eagle with the vulture?
John Wayne doesn't live in California anymore. He's been replaced. No more straight shooting and plain talking. Now, we have a Mexican way of doing things. See a problem? Look the other way. Have a form to fill out? Cheat a little. Taxes to pay? Don't. Just work under the table. Need a special favor from government? Give a bribe in the form of cash or votes. -- Laws mean little. You don't call the police, because they're now a social service agency, and most of the officers are in class to learn Spanish.

U.S. seeks 'security perimeter'
U.S. officials are proposing that Canada and Mexico toughen their immigration and border- control policies and help the U.S. create a three- nation North American "security perimeter." -- Ideally, revamping border- crossing processes would facilitate the flow of commerce across the borders while more efficiently screening border crossers with high- tech devices such as ID cards, which contain fingerprints or palm prints, and various sophisticated electronic sensors.

Editorial: Close the right border
...The Democratic leadership in Congress wants to return to the issue. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, D-S.D., and House Minority Leader Richard Gephardt, D-Mo., visited Mexico two weeks ago and met with President Vicente Fox and parliament leaders. Sen. Daschle and Rep. Gephardt say they are committed to "an earned legalization program," under which millions of Mexican immigrants could work their way toward legal status.

Immigration has increased state TB risk, official says
A new form of an ancient lung disease poses a growing threat to public health systems worldwide. -- Increased rates of immigration from developing countries and overcrowding in cities are some of the biggest risk factors for a possible resurgence in cases of tuberculosis. And it would be possible -- though probably unlikely -- for terrorists to use a tough- to- treat strain of the disease as a biological weapon.

Editorial: Resume "regularization" of Mexican illegals
The Washington Post editorializes in favor of resuming efforts to "regularize" (read: amnesty) Mexican illegal immigrants in today's edition. "Finding ways to bring longtime illegal residents into the sunshine and direct the flow of workers into legal channels would be another step toward getting a better handle on who is here and who is crossing the border. It should free at least some investigative capacity for focusing on those who threaten the U.S., rather than those seeking to share in its prosperity."  Send a letter to the editor, Washington Post

Visa violator faces deportation
The arrest over the weekend of a controversial Palestinian academic followed a ruling by federal judges that the government was free to detain him for overstaying his visa -- not because of the longstanding "secret evidence'' case against the man, U.S. officials said Sunday. -- A Justice Department spokesman said the surprise arrest Saturday of Mazen al-Najjar...

Illegals feel job squeeze
As the economy slows and unemployment rises, the demand for immigrant labor stalls. -- Day laborers like Rogelio Ortiz wait for work on Valley street corners knowing they will make far less money to send home to Mexico - if they can find work at all. -- "There's just no work in Mexico," Ortiz said, "but these days, there's no work here either."

We need guest workers? Ha!
...There are approximately 10 million low-skilled Americans who have similar skills and education levels as the estimated 8 million illegal aliens. In many cases, these two labor segments compete with each other for jobs. -- In spite of the above, the Bush Administration continues on with its mindless pursuit to grant amnesty to 8 million illegal aliens as part of a Guest Worker program.
