Anne Geyer British report challenges prevailing multicultural wisdom All but lost in the end-of-the-year war and terrorism news was a startling report from London, yet its findings may mark crucially important outcomes for Britain, and even for all of Europe, in the wake of 9/11. -- On the surface, at least, the report, conducted formally by the government's Community Cohesion Review Team, recommends some seemingly innocuous things. It suggests, for instance, that people who have made their home in England take a pledge of allegiance to the country, "pursue" the English language and adopt "British norms." How terribly radical! |

News on the Salt Lake City Moyor Why wasn't Rocky told earlier about crackdown? ...The mayor has since denounced the crackdown, and while others call the fired employees "illegal aliens," he calls them "economic migrants." -- Why didn't anyone let the mayor in on the proceedings? -- "We had sealed indictments," added U.S. Attorney's Office spokeswoman Melodie Rydalch. "You have to be careful how you disclose the existence of indictments, and that makes it very hard to share the information." -- Former U.S. Attorney Brent Ward says that in light of the mayor's response, it's right that he was the last to know. |

(Unpublished) Re: Immigration lawyer attacks FAIR Following is my letter responding to a hateful opinion piece your paper ran, i.e. "The organization is FAIR, but its immigration views aren't." It accuses several leaders in the immigration reform movement of the most racist remarks and says nothing about the real effects of massive, decades- long immigration to America's environment, economy and social cohesion. |

Op-Ed Immigration lawyer attacks FAIR The Federation for American Immigration Reform was founded in 1979 by John Tanton, a Michigan ophthalmologist. The group likes to be called FAIR, but it is not. On March 31, 2000, the Wall Street Journal reported that "FAIR is the least accurate acronym in politics," and said it was "a group of population-control zealots whose goal is no immigration at all."
